Business Innovation and Incubation Center Launched

A Business Innovations and Incubation Centre for the University for Development Studies has been launched. The official Ceremony to launch the Centre was held at the UDS International Conference Centre on Wednesday 20th March, 2019.

In a speech preceding the launch, the Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Prof. G.A. Teye bemoaned the funding challenges facing public universities in Ghana. He noted that one of the effective ways to address this challenge was to solicit support from Alumni, “But what is the value of an unemployed alumnus?” Prof. Teye quipped.

The Vice-Chancellor stated further that UDS had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with WADHWANI Foundation to assist UDS in forming Entrepreneurship and start-up clubs, and help build the capacity of Master Trainers, who will give practical instructions in entrepreneurship to students with potential business innovations to incubate these ideas until viable businesses are created.

While presenting a detailed concept of the BIIC, the Director of the Business Innovations and Incubation Centre (BIIC), Dr. Richard Yeboah emphasized that the Centre will act as the liaison between the University and the Private Sector, as well as provide incubation and acceleration services for Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises.

Dr. Oludare S. Kodaolu, Managing Director, West Africa Division of WADHWANI Foundation, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan, and Mr. Mohammed Shaibu Hardi, Director of Finance graced the occasion with their presence. Others included Prof. George Nyarko, Principal, Nyankpala Campus, Prof. Amin Alhassan, Principal, Wa Campus, Prof. and Albert Luguterah, Principal, Navrongo Campus.
